Lying Lalon Amin shamed

On 4th November 2009 Cllr Ahmed Khan, deputy leader of the Independent Alliance, was cleared by a District Judge of assault.

The trial scheduled for two days ended in just three hours. The entire case was based on video evidence. A distinguished judge took one look at the clip which the prosecution centred their entire case on – and tossed out the case.

And while Cllr Khan left South Tyneside Magistrates Court with his head held high, Lalon Amin, Northumbria Police and the Crown Prosecution Service must now hang their heads in shame.

Cllr Khan said: “Lying Lalon Amin cynically claimed he’d been assaulted on the town hall steps. The video proves beyond a shadow of doubt that this was a lie. This deceiving coward dragged my name and reputation through the mud, all while his identity was kept from the public. Despite being an associate of Cllr Iain Malcolm and Cllr David Potts, this crooked wannabe-councillor has no place in public life in South Tyneside. He is a liar and he abused the legal process – he has now been shamed.

“But while Lalon lied, it was the police who persued the case without a shred of evidence in hand. The Shields Gazette’s assistant editor captured the so-called assault on video camera. The clip showed that while Lalon Amin claimed it was an assault, it was nothing of the sort. Police officers who virtually ignored racist abuse and assault allegations against Labour members vigorously launched a case against me on the flimsiest of evidence. We can only speculate as to why.

“The police should be independent, but senior officers’ lives can be made incredibly difficult by an awkward council administration. Truly independent officers withstand the pressure. I believe that some officers involved in this case weren’t acting in the interests of the public, but in the interests of their political friends.”
