CLLR KHAN CLEARED – now watch the unedited video
Nov 5th, 2009 | By admin | Category: Councillor Ahmed KhanThis video is a complete record of the incident that led to Lalon Amin (the person in the leather jacket and whose foul and abusive language can be heard towards the end of the clip) falsely claiming that he was assaulted.
His allegations resulted in Independent Alliance councillor, Cllr Ahmed Khan being summoned to appear before District Judge Roger Elsey at South Tyneside Magistrates Court on November 4th for what was originally scheduled as a 2 day trial.
It quickly became apparent that these outrageous allegations were politically motivated and that a disproportionate amount of Police time had been wasted on something that should clearly never have come to court. It also resulted in tens of thousands of pounds of public money being squandered on what was clearly an ill conceived case – I, like many others can only speculate what the real motives were.
Mr Lalon Amin who likes to be known as a ‘community leader’ and wallows in the title of ‘a prominent member of the Bangladeshi community’ claimed in his statement and repeated again in court (under oath) that he had been slapped on the shoulder, had his neck squeezed until he felt pain, had been put in a headlock and was pushed.
However, this video tells a very different story to that which Lalon Amin tried to portray – something which District Judge Rodger Elsey picked up on very quickly.
In fact the whole case was so ill conceived His Honour Judge Elsey dismissed the case less than 3 hours into a 2 day trial without even hearing the defence evidence and told Cllr Khan that he was free to go.
He also awarded a cost order against the crown.
Questions must now be asked about why the Police reported the matter in the first place and what on earth possessed the CPS to proceed with such a costly trail that most observers believed should never have been pursued in the first place.
It’s now clear that Lalon Amin’s disgraceful allegations were a deliberate attempt to tarnish Cllr Khan’s reputation in the community – thankfully he failed and has been shown up for the liar that he undoubtedly is.

I am pleased to see that justice has been up-held and that the correct verdict has been found, not guilty. It would be of great interest to know what the actual cost to the people of South Tyneside is and, if it would not further increase the financial burden already put upon us, ask for an inqury as to why the case got so far and was not thrown out by the CPS?
We have a fair system within the UK, and I am a firm supporter of our Police Force and our Legal System, but every now and then I have to to question why criminals appear to be let off and honest folk are dragged through the whole ordeal of having to face a Court Hearing.
Despite the many failings of this country and its justice system, the fact that the “politicians” and the “judges” remain intrinsically separate stops miscarriages of justice from taking place. Whilst the scenario of the missing ballot boxes may cause many people problems, without the votes the judge at the time had no evidence to address – hence no case.
However, when it came to “Amin v Khan”, the evidence was available for all to see. Hence the “no case to answer” verdict.
This scenario shows that whilst some members of South Tyneside think they can do what ever they want, there are bulwarks to there illegal ambitions.
I suggest you bury the hatchet, and order a take away from Mr Amin’s business.
That is if he has the humility to deliver it!
Sir Christopher Kelly’s report on the Expenses scandal and the tightening up of the rules that allowed MPs virtual carte blancn to milk the gravy train without a thought to the morality of thier claims has caused a stir in Parliament that was and is indefensible. The new rules have gone part way to clearing the distrust that has rightly built up in the public’s mind how they percieved these parasites in the public purse. However a failure to endorse the report without quibble in its entirety is now needed by all parliamentarians if justice is to be recognised as finally being done. Acry of wolf or but this is unfair just will not suffice and any attempt to vote through a report increase in salary of £40,000 per annum is sheer lunacy. Tables of how much other countries pay their MPs will not wash, there duties and their administrative set up is so much more eqitable than ours is or is ever likely to be. Those who cannot stand the heat should make a conscious decision to go at the end of this parliament. you are not required on board, others of higher moral standing, and hopefully, indisputable integrity will swiftly replace them>
I watched the entire video and find the incident is right near the end very interesting.
You only need to watch the video from 18:16 onwards. Khan patted Amin on the shoulder in a friendly manner and everything was fine to begin with. Then there seemed to be an arguement but I couldn’t make out what was said so it’s difficult to know who was to blame for that. At 21:04 Khan put his hand flat on Amin’s back beneath his collar in what appeared to be an attempt at reconciliation. Khan then pushed Amin and it looked like they lost their balance. Amin’s statement that he had been “slapped on the shoulder, had his neck squeezed until he felt pain, had been put in a headlock and was pushed” was clearly nonsense.
My take on it was that Amin was annoyed and it coloured his judgement so he misinterpreted what happened as deliberate physical agression and then exagerated in his version of events. He behaved immaturely and must have learnt a harsh lesson. Khan should have removed his hand from Amin’s back as soon as Amin objected and then Amin wouldn’t have got so angry and pushed him but the whole incident was a storm in a teacup really. Khan was rightly cleared of the charges. I can’t figure out why this went to court.
