Fancy being a councillor in Fellgate & Hedworth?

The Independent Alliance is actively seeking a candidate to stand in the 2010 local election in your ward. The reason is quite simple; Steve Harrison was a member of the Independent Alliance and chose to leave it last year. We have no objections to that, after all we are a voluntary coalition of like minded individuals who can all choose what they want to do at any time.

What we do object to is that he suggested that he had left because of internal disagreements in the Alliance. Nothing could be further from the truth. We always deal with any disagreements on the basis that we are all entitled to our own opinions. Cllr Harrison left because as a group we had selected a leader who refused to take the £7,000 leader of the oppositions allowance because she felt the people who had got the money in the past had done nothing for it. It was merely cash in their pockets and they did not use it for the benefit of the people of the borough.

The Independent Alliance has also refused to be bought off with jollies and trips to various places both in this country and abroad. Cllr Harrison did not like this as he actively sought and continues to seek the opportunity to visit other more exotic places at your expense. The latest was a trip to London to a conference that is associated with work on the Council in which he has no involvement. He was away for a week, all expenses paid, staying in a nice hotel without having to even report back on what he learned!

What is worse is that he is now heaping abuse upon the heads of fellow Councillors George Waddle and Geraldine White. He has suggested that George’s disability prevents him from doing neither the work of a councillor and that neither George nor Geraldine work to help the residents of Fellgate & Hedworth! This is patently untrue as hundreds of residents in the ward know from first hand experience.

The Independent Alliance is the only group on the Council who actively oppose the Labour Party. That is what you voted for and unfortunately have not got in the form of Steve Harrison.
