A word about Steve Harrison

Jan 23rd, 2010 | By admin | Category: Fellgate, Hedworth & Calf Close

The South Tyneside Independents would like to make clear to the people of Fellgate, Hedworth and Calf Close that we have had to seek an alternative candidate to Steve Harrison as he chose to leave the Independent Alliance and to link himself quite firmly with the Labour Party. When he does attend Council meetings, which is very rare, he always supports the policies and decisions of the Labour Group.

We will not enter into a personal attack on Mr Harrison and deplore his recent attack on your Independent Alliance councillors. But we are concerned that should he be elected in May he will desert the people who voted for him by joining the Labour Party … he would not be the first!

Some of you may remember how Cllr John McCabe (an associate of Mr Harrison) was elected as an Independent and then betrayed the people who had voted for him by promptly crossing the floor to join the Labour party.

These views are shared by our candidate for the local election in May, Jason Potts. ‘I would just like to assure you, my friends and neighbours, that I am in this for the long haul, I have determination, energy and commitment, and I promise to do my very best to help you and be there for you, day to day. I feel that the people of Fellgate, Hedworth and Calf Close need a truly independent councillor and should get what they elected.’

We think its time that Mr Harrison gave the people of Fellgate, Hedworth and Calf Close a cast iron guarantee that if he elected (and it’s a big if) he will not join the Labour party and that if he does he will stand down immediately and seek re-election under the banner of his new political masters.
