WANTED – a replacement for David Potts

Oct 28th, 2009 | By admin | Category: Councillors

We think David Potts, the ‘Conservative’ councillor for Cleadon and East Boldon should be replaced and the reasons for this are quite simple: he has an appalling attendance record and seems to be using the Council as his own personal cash cow while waiting for a seat in Parliament – the biggest cash cow of all!

Cllr Potts, or piggy to his friends, has been making an impact on the Council tax revenue if not the Council business.

In the year 2008 – 2009 he;

  • Claimed £14,000 in allowances
  • Claimed £3,393 in expenses
  • Attended 12 out of 71 possible meetings
  • Making that a cost to you of £1,500 per meeting!

Do you think this is good value for money? Your money, our money, the Council tax payer’s money!

When he is at meetings his impact is virtually nil. Oh, sorry, he did vote with his Labour cronies to give ex-Labour Council leader Paul Waggott Freedom of the Borough. Oh, and he did vote against the proposals to open up the Council meetings to the public, make the Cabinet answer questions in Council meetings and webcast Council meetings. Not that he bothered attending any of the Commission meetings that went on for 15 months discussing such issues; he just showed up at the last meeting and voted against all the new proposals.

Some say he did this as a way of thanking the Labour leader, Cllr Iain Malcolm, for giving him his paid position as deputy chair of the Select Committee for Environment, Housing and Transport and Safer and Stronger Communities – it takes longer to say than his attendance at the meetings!

If you agree with the Independent Alliance that this is not what residents should expect from a councillor why not actively oppose him, better still replace him.

If you would like to know more about how you can remove David Potts from his cosy love in with Labour contact the Independent Alliance at www.achanceforchange.co.uk

  1. I have to say that having attended the South Shields Magistrates Court on Wednesday the 4/11/2009 to hear the case of common assault made against Cllr Ahmed Khan and scheduled to last two days before a district judge, that having heard three hours of submissions from the complainant and evidence from the police and the Gazette reporter, present at the time, it was gratifying to see Cllr Kahn completely exonerated. The Judge having listened & viewed the Video of the day’s events, formerly discharged Cllr Khan with ” No Case To Answer”.

    I count Ahmed and his family very good friends of both myself and my wife, we are exceptionally pleased with the result, though I fear there may be those in South Tyneside Council who will be singularly displeased with this justified turn of events. It is so heartening to see justice prevail. ‘WELL DONE SON’, your integrity remains as it should intact,

    RusRed
